To the
University Community,
In
addition to being an extraordinary
institution of higher education, Rutgers has the distinction of
being one of the nation’s leaders in recycling. During the
calendar year 2004, we recycled over 67.7% of our solid waste. This
translates into over 20,000 tons of waste that was diverted
from the waste stream. Now we need you help in
determining our 2005 numbers.
Recycling
accomplished under the
Rutgers Recycling
Program administered by University Facilities,
Housing and Dining Services is well
documented. The purpose of this memo is to solicit
information to identify and quantify any recycling
that was accomplished by individual
departments or units. Some examples of
materials that need to be identified
include the following:
a.
Computer paper
recycled directly with vendors
b.
Scrap metal or
vehicles sold to scrap dealers.
c.
Outdated books for
periodicals that are reused or whose material components are
reprocessed for a second use.
d.
Used motor oil sent to
a vendor for reprocessing
e.
University furniture
that is sold to a vendor for renewal
f.
Any other recycled
materials unique to your department.
If any
department or unit under your
purview is involved with any type
of recycling effort outside the Rutgers
Recycling Program, we need
your assistance to report the type and amount of material that
was recycled during the calendar year 2005. Please enter your
data on the Recycling Data Form, accessed through
the following link on our web site:
http://www.fms.rutgers.edu/FMSPrograms/Recycling/RecyclingDataForm.asp
Please submit
your data to us no later that February 28, 2006.
If you have any
questions, please call Alonzo Lewis at (732) 445-2639. Thank you
for your assistance in this matter.
